Amit Shah Assam visit row; Inaugurates First Phase of Upgraded Lachit Barphukan police academy
Digital Desk: On Saturday, Union Home Minister Amit Shah inaugurated the first phase of the renovated Lachit Barphukan Police Academy in Assam's Golaghat district. The district's police academy was inaugurated in Dergaon. Shah also provided the groundwork for the subsequent phase.
Following the opening, DGP Harmeet Singh informed Shah about the facilities at the 'Lachit Barphukan Police Academy'. Shah then toured the building.
Notably, Shah was joined by state Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma and Union Minister Sarbananda Sonowal, among others.
Shah landed in Dergaon on Friday evening for a three-day visit to two northeastern states, Assam and Mizoram. According to an official, the academy spans 340 acres and is being restored in two parts for Rs 1,024 crore.

The Rs 167.4 crore first phase features a five-story facility with smart classrooms, a weapon simulator, research labs, and administrative offices, as well as a museum and a modern parade field.
