Assam: CM Sarma announces Guwahati's Rs 300-crore convention center to be ready by next year

Digital Desk: Guwahati city will soon have the first big convention center in the eastern area, Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma stated on Friday while visiting the building progress at Panbazaar.

The venue, which will host international events like Advantage Assam, is anticipated to boost the state's image as a corporate and diplomatic powerhouse.

"This convention centre will have 25 hotel rooms that can accommodate Heads of Nations, Presidents, and Prime Ministers from across the world," Sarma said to the media.

In addition to these high-profile lodgings, the centre will include two convention halls—one with a seating capacity of 900 and another for 1,500 people—as well as 100 normal hotel rooms and 200 tiny auditoriums.

The Rs 300 crore project is already 40% complete, and Sarma is optimistic about its timeframe.

Once operational, the convention center is projected to attract important commercial and medical gatherings, which will boost the state's economy tremendously.

The Chief Minister also revealed that the project had started before the last Assembly elections but was stalled after the original contractor abandoned it.

"The project was stalled, but work has now resumed," he stated. With its size and amenities, the conference centre is poised to become a landmark venue in the eastern region, boosting Assam's status as a significant destination for global summits and trade conclaves.
