Assam: Deadline set by GMC for street vendors ahead of I-Day; Check time here
Digital Desk: In preparation of the 79th Independence Day, the Guwahati Municipal Corporation (GMC) has implemented a new temporal restriction that restricts street sellers and food court operators to staying open only till 10 p.m. After that, they must depart the area and remove their stalls or mobile setups.
GMC spokesman Munindra Mahanta further added, "Any seized goods during the drive can be collected later from the GMC office."
He said that, while the corporation has not yet defined formal vending zones, sellers must follow these temporary guidelines until further notice.
On Saturday night, GMC teams performed evictions in several metropolitan areas, destroying temporary stalls and structures pitched on footpaths. The endeavor is part of a larger campaign to improve public safety and reduce traffic congestion ahead of national holidays.
