Assam: Evictions continue for 3rd day in Uriamghat
Digital Desk: The large-scale eviction drive in Uriamghat entered its third consecutive day today, with district authorities set to carry out demolition operations at five designated locations.
Officials confirmed that the previous two days of the eviction campaign were conducted peacefully, with no reports of violence or resistance.
The administration continues its efforts to reclaim government land and remove encroachments as part of a broader land-clearing initiative in the region.
On the second day of the intense eviction campaign in Uriamghat's Rengma Reserve Forest, authorities in Assam's Golaghat district have destroyed 278 unauthorized homes and regained roughly 250 hectares of protected forest land.
Over 11,000 bighas of encroached land in 12 villages will be cleared as part of the operation, which would impact an estimated 2,648 households, many of whom lack legal land titles.
Heavy security has been deployed to ensure the smooth execution of today’s operations.
Authorities have urged residents to cooperate and vacate unauthorized structures voluntarily.
