Assam: Fire in Moirabari, leaves one dead, several injured

Digital Desk: A terrible fire ravaged Ward No. 6, Barthaal Kachari Gaon, under Dalaigaon Panchayat in Moirabari late at night on February 8, killing a physically challenged man and gravely injuring several other residents.

The inferno also caused significant property damage, with losses estimated at more than Rs 10 lakh.

According to initial reports, the fire is thought to have started in a wooden structure inside a house, quickly spreading and trapping individuals inside.

As frantic citizens sought to evacuate, many were seriously injured. Tragically, 22-year-old Moinul Haque, who was physically disabled and unable to flee, died from the flames while sleeping on his bed.

The fire nearly destroyed two families' homes and goods before local people and the Moirabari Fire Department were able to put it under control after several hours of persistent work.

Despite their efforts, nothing could be recovered from the impacted homes.

Following the incident, Moirabari police took Moinul Haque's body to Morigaon Civil Hospital for a post-mortem exam as part of the official investigation. Authorities are currently investigating the cause of the fire and the extent of the damage.
