Assam: Landslide in Dima Hasao claims two lives

 

Digital Desk: In an alarming development, two people lost their lives in the wake of a massive landslide that struck the Dima Hasao District of Assam, causing difficulties in regular commute and mobility in the area. 

The casualties that have been reported include an elderly man aged around 70 years with the latest inputs coming in further citing that the severe landslide in the area caused the death of an excavator driver who was assigned hill-cutting operations in the Hangrum area under the Mahur Police Station of the Dima Hasao District of Assam.

The excavator driver who died in the landslide has been identified as Feron Tiga, a resident of Lakhimpur. 

It was further informed by the construction company, which had assigned the worker the hill-cutting operations, that the driver died when the excavator fell along with the soil, which slid from the hill during the severe landslide in the area. 

The other individual who died in the landslide is from Huay-zengambe Nryame. 

Additionally, nine people were severely injured as a result of the landslide. Moreover, five shops located by the roadside collapsed due to the severe landslide. 

This incident occurred around 9:30 to 10:00 AM yesterday. 

The calamity has prompted a massive rescue operation in the landslide-hit area, with local authorities, agencies and emergency services working tirelessly to assist those affected.
