Assam: Today marks ‘Dashami, Durga Puja festivities culminate across state
Digital Desk: The Durga Puja celebrations, which began on September 27 in the bygone month of September in Assam, will culminate today on Thursday with the four days of worshipping the goddess in Durga Puja pandals to conclude today with the immersion of the idol of the deity.
Unlike previous years, the celebrations this time are marked by a subdued atmosphere.
Needless to say, this year’s Durga Puja festivities in Assam carried along with it a sombre note, as devotees celebrated the festival with tradition and rituals but without the usual joy and fervour associated with the eventful occasion.
This is the first Durga Puja without the presence of legendary artiste and cultural icon Zubeen Garg, whose sudden and tragic demise has left an irreplaceable void in the cultural spirit and tapestry of the state, which remains hard to fill.
Across Assam, community puja committees were seen paying heartfelt tributes to the Legendary artist and Cultural Icon while keeping the celebrations subdued.
This was the first time in decades that the celebrations were held without the voice of Assam heartthrob Zubeen Garg, whose sudden demise in Singapore on September 19 has cast a pall of gloom over the state and the region and the nation as a whole.
The devotees' footfall across Assam shared and lipped a single heartfelt and poignant prayer before Goddess Durga—for justice regarding the circumstances surrounding the artist’s sudden demise.
Several other puja committees across Assam are also planning tribute sessions, with soft renditions of Zubeen Garg’s songs playing in the backdrop.
Notably, Assam State Capital Guwahati city alone has granted permission to 511 Durga Puja committees to organise the celebrations this year, according to the district administration.
Furthermore, traffic restrictions are in place in Assam State Capital City, Guwahati, today and tomorrow for the Goddess Durga idol immersion in various parts of the state and the region.
