Assam CM Himanta Biswa Sarma orders "shoot at sight" order for Dhubri town over illegal activities

Digital Desk: On Friday, June 13, Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma issued a shoot-at-sight instruction after 6 p.m. in Dhubri district, following communal rioting sparked by the discovery of cow bones near a Hanuman temple, one day after Eid celebrations.

The Chief Minister visited Dhubri to assess the situation. He presided over a meeting of senior officials from the district administration and law enforcement to examine ground circumstances.

The Dhubri district police administration had already put in place elaborate security measures throughout the town in anticipation of the chief minister's visit.

Speaking to the media following the meeting, Chief Minister Sarma confirmed the harsh move, claiming, "I have ordered a shoot at sight in Dhubri if "any kind of unpleasant circumstance" arises in the district. The shoot-at-sight guidelines will be implemented in Dhubri town.

Beginning tonight, the ban applies to any illegal actions, including "stone pelting," in the Dhubri district.

In order to personally oversee the situation and maintain calm, Chief Minister Sarma issued an order for the immediate arrest of all "tainted criminals" in Dhubri district.

The Chief Minister highlighted an expected external threat, claiming that Dhubri has been "targeted by fundamentalist forces in Bangladesh. He vowed unequivocally, I will never allow this to happen."
