Assam CM Sarma makes big announcement! 1 crore people across the state to sing state anthem, 'O Mur Apunar Desh'
Digital Desk: Making a big and important announcement, Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma has stated that 1 crore people across the state will sing the state anthem, O Mur Apunar Desh, on the same day as part of a historic attempt to strengthen community solidarity.
In response to discussions on the Assam Budget 2025 in the Assembly, CM Sarma declared, "This year, from Barak Valley to BTAD, from Haflong to Karbi Anglong—covering the entire region—1 crore people will sing O Mur Apunar Desh together."
Adding to the statement, CM further stated, "For the first time, this anthem will be performed in its original form, as penned by Lakshminath Bezbaroa, with no Assamese or Bengali words. This would resonate with every tribe and group in Assam."
The initiative aims to strengthen the spirit of inclusivity and cultural pride by uniting numerous ethnic groups around a single song representing Assam's rich heritage.
The date and details of the mass singing event are likely to be announced shortly.
