Assam-bound Kamakhya Express derails in Odisha, no injuries reported; Probe underway

Digital Desk: Eleven air-conditioned coaches from the Bangalore-Kamakhya AC Superfast Express derailed Sunday near Nergundi Railway Station in Cuttack district, Odisha, halting service on the important route to Assam.

"We received information concerning the derailment of certain coaches on the 12551 Kamakhya Superfast Express. As of now, we know that 11 AC coaches have been derailed. Nobody is wounded. "All passengers are safe," stated Ashoka Kumar Mishra, East Coast Railway's Chief Public Relations Officer.

The disaster occurred while the train was en route to Guwahati, transporting many people from Assam and other northeastern states.

Railway officials have started diverting trains affected by the incident while they examine the cause of the derailment. The Kamakhya Express connects eastern India and the Northeast.

"We will learn the cause of the derailment following the investigation. Our first objective is to redirect the trains that are currently on the route and begin the restoration process," Mishra stated.

The East Coast Railway has set up an emergency helpline for families looking for information about relatives traveling on the train.
