Assam declares public holidays for Panchayat Polls in selected districts on May 2 and 7
Digital Desk: The Assam government has announced May 2 and 7, 2025, as public holidays in regions where polling will take place for the forthcoming Panchayat elections.
Following a letter from the Assam State Election Commission, the Governor of Assam made this announcement in accordance with Section 25 of the Negotiable Instruments Act, 1881.
The Governor of Assam has announced that on the designated poll dates in the state, all government and non-government offices, educational institutions, commercial establishments, banks, and tea gardens situated inside the polling regions shall be closed.
In Assam, the Panchayat Elections will take place in two stages in 27 districts, with approximately 1.80 crore voters casting ballots at 25,007 polling places.
In fourteen districts, the first phase will occur on May 2, while in the other thirteen districts, the second phase will occur on May 7. Counting of votes will take place on May 11 for both phases.
