Assam folklorist-poet Anil Boro honored with Padma Shri

 

Digital Desk: Renowned Assamese folklorist-poet Anil Kumar Boro has been conferred the Padma Shri, India's fourth-highest civilian award, for his significant contributions to Bodo literature.

President Droupadi Murmu presented the award during a ceremony at Rashtrapati Bhavan.

Boro is the head of Gauhati University's folklore research department and the author of more than 30 works in various literary genres.

His most significant works include "Folk Literature of the Bodos: An Introduction" and "A History of Bodo Literature."

He has been crucial in promoting Bodo literature globally through his writings, translations, and editorial work.

Worth mentioning here, Boro was honored with the prestigious Sahitya Akademi Award in 2012. He has also received the Rangsar Literary Award. Boro was awarded the Sahitya Sadhana Botha in 2024.

Boro's work has not only enriched Bodo literature but also promoted mother tongue education and the implementation of the National Education Policy (NEP) 2020 in Bodoland.
