Assam hit-and-run case: Rudra actress Nandini Kashyap detained, probe underway, victim's family files 2nd case

Digital Desk: Police have detained Assamese actress Nandini Kashyap concerning the July 25 hit-and-run tragedy that killed 21-year-old Samiul Haque, a student at Nalbari Polytechnic.

Reports state that Kashyap was arrested Tuesday evening from a rehearsal location at the Rajdhani Theatre in North Guwahati and then taken to the All Women Police Station in Panbazar to be questioned.

Police confirmed that the actress has been detained for questioning as part of the ongoing investigation, although no official arrest has been made to date.

According to eyewitnesses, Kashyap is suspected of driving the speeding car that struck Samiul. Four days after the accident, he passed away at Apollo Hospital from his wounds.

Notably, at the Dispur Police Station, the All Assam Polytechnic Students' Union (AAPSU) has filed a formal complaint (FIR), requesting that authorities take stringent legal action.

Student organizations and civil society have responded strongly to the case, with demonstrations demanding a prompt and open investigation.

In response to the criticism, Kashyap's two-year contract with Rajdhani Theatre has been terminated in order to safeguard the organization's reputation and current productions.

Police have started a thorough investigation that includes looking at forensic evidence and CCTV footage. Although the police have not yet formally verified whether Kashyap was operating the vehicle, sources suggest that, based on the results, legal action may be taken shortly.

The legal pressure surrounding the incident has increased as a result of Samiul Haque's family filing a second case against her.

In addition to multiple fractures—both of his legs and one arm were broken in the collision—Samiul sustained serious head injuries.

He passed away in the hospital from his wounds despite medical efforts.
