Atul Bora remarks on Rahul Gandhi's Assam visit, says, 'Visit to backfire on Congress party'
Digital Desk: On Wednesday, Assam Minister and senior Asom Gana Parishad (AGP) leader Atul Bora rejected Congress MP Rahul Gandhi's recent visit to the state, suggesting it will have no good impact on the 2026 Assembly elections.
Bora suggested that the visit could be damaging to the Congress party's aspirations.
"His visit will have no impact," Bora told reporters. There won't be any benefits and no positive impact. What's the point of the visit? Congress operates under a single system.
Bora highlighted the accomplishments of the current BJP-led government in Assam, claiming that the state has seen unprecedented progress in the last four years since its independence.
Rahul Gandhi addressed a rally in Chhaygaon on Wednesday and expressed confidence that the Congress would sweep the state's Assembly elections. He also launched a harsh attack on Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma, accusing him of behaving like a "king" rather than an elected lawmaker.
Congress President Mallikarjun Kharge also spoke at the event, providing support to the party's renewed drive in the state. Gaurav Gogoi, the Congress MP from Kaliabor, reaffirmed the party's resolve to fight for justice and support groups that he described as "living in fear" under the BJP administration.
However, in accordance, Atul Bora highlighted the achievements of the present BJP-led government in Assam, claiming that tremendous development has been accomplished in the last four years, which he claimed has never been seen in the state since Independence.
The political tension surrounding Gandhi's arrival was obvious on Wednesday, with BJP workers holding demonstrations in Kamrup district. The protest, conducted in the Bongaon region near the location of a Congress meeting, saw BJP members waving placards and screaming chants against the Congress leader, showing strong opposition to his presence in Assam.
