BJ Medical College cancels MBBS exams amid students facing emotional trauma caused by deadly air crash
Digital Desk: Following the horrific crash of Air India Flight AI-171 near Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel International Airport, which impacted a medical student hostel, B.J. Medical College (BJMC) has cancelled all ongoing and impending internal examinations for MBBS students. The college has also cancelled all medical faculty and doctors' summer vacations, requesting that they assist in the care of those injured.
The decision has an impact on over 500 students, notably those in their first and second years, many of whom lived in the building that was hit by the Boeing Dreamliner.
More than 200 students, including MBBS residents, have left their hostels and gone home due to shock and terror.
According to college officials, at least 40 students who were present during the crash are still in serious shock and anguish. Officials claimed that the exams would be rescheduled once students had recovered from the psychological damage.
The second phase of the summer holiday was supposed to commence on June 13, but all medical personnel have now been instructed to report for duty on June 14.
The decision was made in light of the acute medical needs resulting from the plane disaster and the continued care of injured victims at Civil Hospital, where BJMC doctors are on duty.
