BTC Election Results 2025: BPF secures 28 seats, UPPL gets 7, while BJP ends up having only 5 seats
Digital Desk: The Bodoland People's Front (BPF) won a landslide victory in the Bodoland Territorial Council (BTC) elections, taking home 28 seats. The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) only secured five seats, while the United People's Party Liberal (UPPL) secured seven.
After five years in the wilderness, former BTC chief Hagrama Mohilary has returned to politics with this resounding victory. For many people in the Bodo heartland, this result is a strong declaration of identity, self-government, and communal trust rather than just a matter of statistics.
In contrast to the UPPL administration, which was perceived by the indigenous Bodos as ceding power to the central and state governments, Mohilary's leadership is renowned for preserving Bodoland's autonomy.
By advocating for autonomy, dignity, and the restoration of Bodoland's pride, Mohilary and the BPF were able to connect with voters more than the UPPL, which concentrated on development and its alliance with the BJP.
