CM Pema Khandu declares first-ever GI Mahotsav as a calendar event for Arunachal in New Delhi

Digital Desk: Arunachal Pradesh held its inaugural GI (Geographical Indication) Mahotsav in New Delhi, with Chief Minister Pema Khandu announcing it as an annual calendar event.

Union Minister for Education Dharmendra Pradhan unfurled the three-day event, which was held at Select City Walk in Saket, New Delhi.

Arunachal Pradesh has the most GI tags in the Northeast, with 20 products that showcase the state's rich heritage in textiles, handicrafts, and agriculture.

The exhibition highlighted the enormous potential of local artists, weavers, and farmers, bringing them global attention and extending their commercial opportunities.

The Arunachal government has set a target of 50 GI-tagged goods by 2030, with plans to add 30 more in the ensuing years, ensuring that the state's local crafts and customs thrive.

Union Minister Kiren Rijiju, Deputy Chief Minister Chowna Mein, MPs Tapir Gao and Phangnon Konyak, as well as other esteemed government colleagues and MLAs, attended the event, which added to its significance.

The GI Mahotsav is an important step toward promoting and preserving Arunachal Pradesh's indigenous products while also strengthening the state's position in national and international markets.
