Chandigarh grenade attack case: NIA chargesheets 4 terrorists of banned BKI organization
Digital Desk: Four members of the outlawed Babbar Khalsa International (BKI) have been charged by the National Investigation Agency (NIA) concerning the Chandigarh grenade attack of 2024, officials announced on Sunday.
The attack was planned by US-based Harpreet Singh, also known as Happy Passia, and Pakistan-based designated terrorist Harwinder Singh Sandhu, also known as Harvinder Rinda, according to the chargesheet submitted to the Special NIA Court in Chandigarh.
According to the NIA, Rinda and Passia, who are known to have ties to terror gangsters, planned the attack by giving local Indian agents money, weapons, and logistical support.
Investigations also revealed that the hand grenade used in the incident, an HG-84 type, was made in Pakistan.
Rinda and Passia recruited and directed local operators Rohan Masih and Vishal Masih, also known as Shalu. Before reportedly throwing the grenade on September 11, 2024, the two performed search operations on the target property. The two fled the scene in an auto-rickshaw and were subsequently apprehended by Punjab Police. The culprit was then taken to prison by Chandigarh Police.
The NIA has filed a closure report against Kuldeep, an auto driver who was first arrested during the investigation but has now been found not to have been involved.
Four people, including Rohan and Vishal, have been charged by the National Intelligence Agency (NIA) with conspiring to instill fear among the public and law enforcement.
The charges originate from Happy Passia's dark web communication with local operatives. The trial against them is slated to begin shortly. The NIA is also probing other BKI members and dismantling their networks in India.
