Charan Boro takes oath as minister in Assam cabinet

Digital Desk: Assam cabinet underwent a reshuffle today, with one new face inducted into Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma’s council of ministers.

On Saturday, Mazbat MLA Charan Boro took the oath of office as the new Transport Minister in the Assam Cabinet.

The MLA was sworn in by Governor Lakshman Prasad Acharya during the oath-taking ceremony, which took place at Raj Bhavan.

BPF president Hagrama Mohilary and Assam president Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma were also in attendance.

Charan Boro's appointment to the Cabinet has significant political ramifications and occurs just months before the 2026 Assembly elections.

The BPF, formerly a significant opposition group, has formally rejoined the ruling NDA alliance with this action, bringing it back to power in Assam.

The BPF’s possible inclusion is being viewed as a strategic outreach by the BJP to consolidate tribal and regional support ahead of the 2026 assembly elections.

Today’s reshuffle is the second major cabinet change since December 7 last year, when four new ministers — Prasanta Phukan, Krishnendu Paul, Kaushik Rai, and Rupesh Gowala — were inducted into the government.
