Delhi Blast: Terror probe underway, Amit Shah to hold meeting, ASI announces closure of Red Fort till Nov 13
Digital Desk: On Monday evening, a high-intensity blast in a Hyundai i20 car near the Red Fort in Delhi resulted in nine deaths and 20 injuries. Union Home Minister Amit Shah expressed condolences and announced that top investigative agencies are thoroughly examining the incident.
The explosion occurred at 6:52 PM close to the Red Fort Metro Station, leaving behind mangled bodies and damaged vehicles in a busy area.
In response, a high alert has been declared in Delhi. The Delhi Police have activated sections of the Unlawful Activities Prevention Act (UAPA) due to forensic evidence and intelligence suggesting possible terrorist connections. Sources indicated that ammonium nitrate, found earlier in Faridabad, was used in the blast.
While the investigation is ongoing, the Archeological Survey of India (ASI) has decided to close the Red Fort for three days, until November 13.
At 11 a.m., Union Minister Amit Shah will host a situational review meeting at his home. Thirteen people have now been killed in the deadly explosion near the Red Fort metro station.
The i20 driver who caused the Red Fort explosion has been identified. According to Pulwama police officials, the doctor in question was identified as Dr. Umar Un Nabi. CCTV footage also shows Dr. Umar operating the i20 just prior to the explosion.
According to police, Umar was likely operating the white Hyundai i20 when it exploded after slowing down close to a red light. He was also in contact with two other doctors from Jammu and Kashmir who were recently arrested, the officers said on condition of anonymity.
