Dibrugarh to be developed as 2nd capital of Assam- CM Himanta Biswa Sarma

Digital Desk: On the great occasion of 76th Republic Day, January 26, Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma made a great announcement that Dibrugarh's district headquarters would be constructed as the state's second capital within the following three years.

On Republic Day, Sarma unfurled the national flag in Dibrugarh and announced that the government would build a permanent Assam assembly building in this city on the southern bank of the Brahmaputra in Upper Assam.

"Today marks a crucial milestone in Dibrugarh's road to becoming Assam's second capital. For the first time, state celebrations are being held in this historic city," he remarked.

The CM declared that beginning in 2027, one session of the Assam Assembly will be held in Dibrugarh each year.

"Dibrugarh will emerge as Assam's second capital within the next three years. Raj Bhavan in Tezpur will be constructed to make it the cultural center of Assam. Silchar will have a secretariat and a chief secretary's office, bridging the gap between the Barak Valley and Guwahati," CM Sarma stated.

Last year, Sarma established the first CM secretariat outside the state capital in Dibrugarh.
