Direct flights resume between India and China after a 5-year hiatus

Digital Desk: After more than five years, direct flights between China and India have formally resumed. Yu Jing, the spokesperson for the Chinese Embassy in India, confirmed the development on Sunday.

Yu posted on X that "direct flights between China and India are now a reality."

Today, the first flight from Kolkata to Guangzhou departed. The Shanghai-New Delhi route will begin operations on November 9, with three flights every week.

IndiGo had declared earlier this month that it would be one of the first airlines to resume operations after the COVID-19 suspension. Using Airbus A320neo aircraft, the airline announced in a press release on October 2 that it would begin daily nonstop flights between Kolkata and Guangzhou on October 26, 2025.

In addition, IndiGo stated that, subject to regulatory approvals, it intends to add direct flights between Delhi and Guangzhou to the service.

To further enhance connectivity between the two nations, IndiGo formally announced on October 11 that it would commence daily direct flights between Delhi and Guangzhou on November 10.

It is anticipated that these routes will help reestablish business, tourism, and trade connections that have been strained recently.
