Farmers' March to Chandigarh halted by police

Digital Desk: Farmers from the Samyukta Kisan Morcha (SKM) embarked on their 'Chandigarh Chalo' march today, only to be stopped at the border by the Punjab Police.

The SKM plans to hold a week-long sit-in in Chandigarh starting today to press for various farmer demands.

The march follows a tense meeting between SKM leaders and Punjab Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann, which ended abruptly.

Multiple farmer leaders were allegedly detained by the Punjab police in midnight raids.

Kisan Mazdoor Sangharsh Committee leader Gurbachan Singh Chhaba criticized the state government's handling of the situation.

Farmers gathered at the Golden Gate in Amritsar to protest against the Punjab government.

Barricades have been set up at the Chandigarh-Mohali border points, and security has been beefed up.

The SKM, a conglomerate of over 30 farmer bodies, claims that farmers are being stopped by the Punjab Police from heading to Chandigarh for the planned 'dharna'.
