Former Union Minister Rajen Gohain joins AJP

Digital Desk: Former Union Minister and four-time Nagaon MP Rajen Gohain formally joined the Assam Jatiya Parishad on Wednesday, marking a significant political shift in Assam’s landscape.

The veteran leader, once a stalwart of the BJP, had resigned from the ruling party on October 9, citing dissatisfaction with its current leadership and direction in the state.

Gohain, accompanied by his supporters, joined the AJP at an event held at the PWD Auditorium in Guwahati.

He was welcomed into the party by senior leaders, including AJP president Lurinjyoti Gogoi, Chitta Basumatary, and Jagadish Bhuyan.

After officially joining the regional outfit, Gohain said he would continue to perform his duties “judiciously,” as he has always done throughout his political career.

A former BJP state president and Minister of State for Railways during Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s first term in 2016, Gohain submitted his resignation from the BJP at the party’s state headquarters, Atal Bihari Vajpayee Bhawan, last month.

Following weeks of speculation about his next political move, Gohain’s entry into the AJP puts an end to the uncertainty and strengthens the regional party ahead of the upcoming elections.
