Guwahati: 11 houses demolished following Eviction drive underway in Birubari area
Digital Desk: An eviction drive is presently ongoing in Birubari, Guwahati, with authorities dismantling unlicensed constructions.
So far, 11 residences have been demolished.
The government had previously delivered eviction notices to the residents, ordering them to leave their houses.
After showing a final warning, an extensive police force and bulldozers arrived at the site early Thursday morning to raze out the buildings.
The eviction takes place in Birubari's Trunk Factory area. The affected households were formally informed of the drive over 25 days ago.
While legal actions are still ongoing, 45 of the 69 displaced families have filed petitions with the High Court requesting relief.
Meanwhile, evictions continue for the other families who did not seek court intervention. Authorities have confirmed that the operation would proceed following official directives.
