Guwahati: Thief injured in police firing after escape attempt

Digital desk: According to reports, a thief sustained bullet injuries after the Guwahati police opened fire on him late on Tuesday night. The accused, Jewel Khan, allegedly grabbed a woman's bag at Bonphul Nagar before fleeing.

When the subject allegedly attempted to resist arrest, the police stopped him and fired fire. The injured accused was immediately taken to Gauhati Medical College and Hospital (GMCH) for treatment, reports stated.

According to Mrinal Deka, Deputy Commissioner of Police, Guwahati (East), the thief was a repeat offender who had been involved in several cases of chain and vehicle theft. Police searched Jewel's home and discovered two ATM cards and a stolen scooter.
