Guwahati Journalist Dilwar Hussain Mazumdar arrested

Digital Desk: In a startling development, Guwahati journalist Dilwar Hussain Mazumdar was taken into custody late Tuesday night after interrogating Dambaru Saikia, the managing director of Assam Cooperative Apex Bank, at a demonstration against purported corruption.

In order to draw attention to financial issues within the bank, Assam Jatiya Yuva Shakti organized the protest.

After Saikia was subjected to challenging questioning by Mazumdar, who was covering the event, the MD invited him inside the bank.

But the invitation swiftly took a turn for the worse when Mazumdar said he was intimidated and that he was made to remove the footage from his phone. According to reports, other reporters were also instructed to remove their recordings.

Saikia allegedly issued a chilling warning, stating that "Then you won't be spared" when Mazumdar brought up the fact that the demonstration had already been covered by many media outlets.

Mazumdar was detained under the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita's Sections 351(2)/3(1)(r) and the SC/ST (Prevention of Atrocities) Act, 2015.

The unexpected sequence of events has prompted questions regarding Mazumdar's arrest and an apparent attempt to quiet him.

Journalists and activists have raised alarm about the incident, urging transparency and accountability.
