IMD Orange Alert Issued for Assam, Heavy rains and thundershowers across state until October 10

Digital Desk: With the most intense activity in western and lower Assam, the IMD's seven-day forecast calls for widespread rain and thundershowers throughout Assam through at least October 10.

For October 5, the IMD issued an orange-level alert, warning people to be ready and to use caution, especially in areas of western Assam that are likely to experience heavy rains and storm activity.

Strong windstorms are predicted, especially in the northeastern districts of Dibrugarh, Tinsukia, Lakhimpur, and Dhemaji, as well as in central regions like Barpeta, Bajali, and Kamrup.

Residents are advised by the IMD to:

Keep abreast of local advisories and weather reports.

Refrain from remaining in landslide zones or in buildings that are susceptible.

To avoid crop damage, ensure that croplands have adequate drainage.

Reduce the number of trips to areas affected by flash floods or waterlogging.

Observe all warnings issued by the District Administration and the State Disaster Management Authority (SDMA).

In the meantime, users are recommended to use the "Damini" app for lightning alerts and the "Mausam" app for location-based, real-time forecasts.

This forecast is being aided by a cyclonic circulation over northeast Bihar, which is allowing significant moisture from the Bay of Bengal to enter the region and causing widespread rainfall and thunderstorms throughout the state.
