India’s Got Latent Defamatory Remarks Case: Assam Police summons IGL panelists Ranveer Allahbadia
Digital Desk: The debate around podcaster Ranveer Allahbadia's criticisms of comedian Samay Raina's YouTube program India's Got Latent continues to heat up.
According to ANI, the Assam Police has summoned Allahbadia and fellow YouTuber Ashish Chanchlani, who was also on the panel.
In addition, the police will question the remaining three panelists—comic and host Samay Raina, content producer Apoorva Mukhija, and comedian Jaspreet Singh.
The announcement comes after an Assam Police team arrived in Mumbai on Wednesday to probe the matter. According to a PTI report, the delegation visited Mumbai's Khar police station on Wednesday and talked with senior officers.
On February 10, Guwahati Police filed an FIR against the five YouTubers and content makers for "promoting obscenity and engaging in sexually explicit and vulgar discussion," according to Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma.
The creators are also facing lawsuits in Mumbai after the contentious 'India's Got Latent' episode.
Allahbadia then issued a public apology, confessing his lack of discretion in making the joke.
Samay Raina also removed all episodes of his show from his YouTube channel, which had received millions of views. Raina stated on social media that the recent events have been difficult for him to deal with, but he will cooperate with investigators.
