India Covid-19 Cases: Active cases cross 5,500; 4 deaths reported in 24 hours
Digital Desk: The Ministry of Health and Family Welfare reported 5,755 active COVID-19 cases in India as of 8 a.m. on Sunday. Moreover, four new Covid-19 deaths have been recorded in the last 24 hours, one each in Madhya Pradesh, Kerala, Tamil Nadu, and Maharashtra.
The major state impacted is Kerala, with the number of active cases exceeding 1,800 on Sunday. According to MoHFW data, the following states are Delhi, Gujarat, and West Bengal, with the capital reporting approximately 73 new instances of COVID-19 in the last 24 hours, bringing the total to 665.
According to the official website, up to 760 people have been treated, discharged, or migrated as of this morning.
The current spike in Covid cases in India is being driven by novel Omicron sub-variants like JN.1, NB.1.8.1, LF.7, and XFC. These have been linked to enhanced transmissibility, but the symptoms are typically modest.
These variants are now designated as "under monitoring" by the WHO and are not yet a cause for concern but should be approached with due diligence.
