Justice Ashutosh Kumar appointed Chief Justice of Gauhati High Court
Digital Desk: The Gauhati High Court has named Justice Ashutosh Kumar as its Chief Justice. Previously, Kumar was Patna High Court's Acting Chief Justice.
The appointment followed the government's July 11 directives designating five judges from different High Courts as Chief Justices.
The Ministry of Law and Justice said in a press release that President Droupadi Murmu made the appointments.
In addition, four Chief Justices of the High Courts have been moved.
Former Madhya Pradesh High Court Acting Chief Justice Justice Sanjeev Sachdeva will now take over as Chief Justice of the same court.
A Delhi High Court judge, Justice Vibhu Bakhru, has been named Chief Justice of the Karnataka High Court.
The Chief Justice of the Patna High Court, Justice Vipul Manubhai Pancholi, will take over the charge.
The Jharkhand High Court has appointed Justice Tarlok Singh Chauhan, a former member of the Himachal Pradesh High Court, as its Chief Justice.
The Supreme Court Collegium, led by Chief Justice of India B.R. Gavai, recommended these judicial elevations on May 26, 2025.
The goal of the move is to strengthen leadership and efficiency in the country's higher courts.
