Manipur: 44 MLAs express willingness to form government
Digital Desk: A political shift has occurred in Manipur, where 44 MLAs have stated that they are all willing to form a government. A delegation of the MLAs met Manipur Governor Ajay Kumar Bhalla at the Raj Bhawan in the afternoon and expressed willingness to form a new government as per what they termed the will of the people.
Eight BJP, one NPP, and one independent MLA made up the delegation of MLAs.
Heirok MLA Th. Radheshyam stated that the delegation informed the governor of their willingness to act in the best interest of the people and form a popular government.
While the delegation did not specify an exact date for staking a formal claim, Radheshyam remarked that Governor Bhalla has shown readiness to take up his role as per procedure.
He further added that Speaker Th Satyabrata had personally met with all 44 MLAs, each of whom has agreed to the formation of a government under a united front.
With political uncertainty lingering in the state for months, today’s development signals a potential breakthrough if the governor decides to initiate the process by constitutional provisions.
Meanwhile, amid moves by MLAs in Manipur to form a government on Wednesday, reports have also emerged stating sources at the Centre claiming that it was unlikely that President’s Rule in the strife-torn state would be revoked any time soon.
