Manipur: All eyes on Kuki, Metei delegations meet with centre
Digital Desk: In a bid to resolve the ongoing ethnic conflict in Manipur, delegations from the Meitei and Kuki communities have arrived in New Delhi for peace talks convened by the Centre today.
The meeting is part of the Ministry of Home Affairs' efforts to mediate between the two warring sides, which have been embroiled in ethnic violence since May 2023, resulting in over 250 deaths and thousands displaced.
The Meitei team, comprising representatives from the All Manipur United Clubs' Organisation (AMUCO) and the Federation of Civil Society Organisations (FOCS), includes prominent figures such as President Nanda Luwang and senior advisors Ito Tongram and Dr. Dhanabir Laishram.
The Kuki delegation, on the other hand, features representatives from the Zomi Council, Hmar Inpi, and the Kuki Zo Council.
The Kuki leadership has set three pre-conditions for the talks, including a ban on cross-movement between communities, a six-month ceasefire, and the initiation of a structured dialogue process.
It remains to be seen whether these conditions have been met.
Worth mentioning here, the Centre has imposed President's rule in the state since February 13, after N. Biren Singh resigned as chief minister.
The upcoming talks offer a glimmer of hope for reconciliation between the two communities.
With the Ministry of Home Affairs facilitating the dialogue, all eyes are on the outcome of this critical meeting.
