Meghalaya CM Conrad Sangma's major approach for road connectivity projects; travel time snipped by hours
Digital Desk: The first phase of the Shillong-Dawki four-lane highway project, which spans 11.6 kilometers from Rilbong to Myllim Marbaniang, is expected to be finished by October 2025. The construction work is progressing rapidly.
According to sources, the state government has acquired land, finished the four-lane highway from Rilbong to Myllim Marbaniang, and turned it over to the National Highways and Infrastructure Development Corporation Limited (NHIDCL).
The proposed highways are-
Rilbong to Myllim Marbaniang (11.6 km),
Myllim Marbaniang to Wahlingkhat (26.55 km),
Siatbakon to Wahkdat (17.77 km),
Wahkdat to Tambil Dawki is (7.99 km)
The Conrad Sangma government of Meghalaya is collaborating with the Centre to enhance road connectivity, reducing travel time for distant parts of the state.
The government emphasizes regional connectivity and cross-border trade as vital economic drivers. Additionally, plans are underway to develop National Highway 127B, connecting Phulbari and Goeragre, costing Rs 1,241 crore.
