Mizoram: 3,000 electric detonators seized by Assam Rifles and Mizoram Police, 2 Myanmar nationals arrested

 


Digital desk: Security authorities continue to seize weaponry, ammunition, and explosives in Mizoram, with 3,000 electric detonators, 700 meters of cordtex, and war-like goods discovered on Sunday in the bordering state, as well as the arrest of two Myanmar nationals, according to officials.

According to a defense spokesman, Assam Rifles and Mizoram Police began a joint operation after receiving specific intelligence about the presence of explosives and accessories in the Vokte Kai areas of the border town Zokhawtar in the Champhai district. The explosives were confiscated.

Two Myanmar nationals riding bikes were apprehended, and 3,000 electric detonators, 700 meters of cordtex, and war-related supplies were discovered in their possession.

The Myanmarese nationals and the recovered objects have been turned over to Mizoram Police for further judicial proceedings.

According to police, the Myanmar nationals are attempting to sneak explosive components from Mizoram into their homeland.

The capture of explosive materials on Sunday marks the second such event in the last two weeks.

Assam Rifles and Mizoram Police intercepted two cars, apprehended two people, and retrieved 2,000 gelatine sticks and 800 detonators from the suspects on February 3.

On February 12, Mizoram Police intercepted a car in Lunglei Bazar, southern Mizoram, and seized two AK-47 rifles, five US-made M4 carbines, 20 magazines, 504 rounds of 7.62 mm ammunition, and 4,675 rounds of 5.56 mm.

The cops also seized Rs 49,550 in cash, certain documents, SIM cards, ATM cards, and five mobile phones.

Three people were arrested: two Mizoram natives and one from neighboring Tripura, all of whom were carrying rifles and ammunition in the automobile.
