Moran highway turns runway track for PM Modi’s Assam visit on Feb 14

Digital Desk: The National Highway in Moran was transformed into an operating airport for a major air exercise on February 14, during Prime Minister Narendra Modi's visit to Assam.

This typically congested road, which is used by trucks and commuters, was specially prepared to handle fighter jets and military helicopters. This was a historic occasion for the area when locals heard the roar of airplane landings.

Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma emphasized the historic moment for Assam and the Northeast by stating that Modi would arrive by plane at this freshly converted strip.

The exercise comprised approximately 16 Indian Air Force aircraft, including advanced aircraft such as the Rafale and Sukhoi, performing take-offs and landings, demonstrating the IAF's capacity to use civilian facilities for military operations.

To guarantee a flawless execution, the event was extensively protected, with traffic regulated and access points sealed. Its goal was to put operational readiness and collaboration between armed troops and civil authorities to the test, while also demonstrating India's dual-use infrastructure initiatives.

Students from local educational institutions were invited to observe the unique occasion, with the goal that it might inspire young people to pursue careers in the IAF.

Although there would be no public speeches at Moran, the event struck a chord with the residents, symbolizing a blend of progress, defense efficiency, and national pride in Upper Assam.
