NEET PG 2024 counseling to be revised— orders Gauhati HC, 371 seats allocated

Digital Desk: The Gauhati High Court orders state government to allocate the original 288 NEET PG 2024 State quota medical seats, as well as a 25% increase in seats to implement the 10% Economically Weaker Section (EWS) quota, bringing the total to 371 for the first round of counselling.

Justice Michael Zothankhuma also directed that the 371 seats be allocated/distributed following the State's reservation policy to guarantee proper execution of the 10% quota for the EWS.

The ruling was issued in response to two writ petitions submitted independently by petitioners from both reserved and unreserved categories of candidates, asking for a 25% increase in the number of postgraduate (PG) seats to implement 10% for the EWS.

Senior counsels KN Choudhury and BD Konwar represented the petitioners in the unreserved and reserved categories, respectively.

The court has ordered that the first round of counseling be restarted so that meritorious candidates can choose the best seats/subjects.

However, the decisions made by PG candidates at the first round of counseling on November 18, 2024, should not be altered. PG candidates who were already assigned a seat/course/subject in the first round will be able to select another seat/course/subject in the new first round due to an increase of 83 postgraduate seats.

The second round of counseling will begin again, but the selection/allotment of seats/subjects/courses to candidates in the second round on December 12, 2024, has been set aside.

The Court ordered the allocation of 371 seats under the State's Reservation Policy and restarted the counseling procedure.
