Official-level border talks to be held between Mizoram and Assam on April 25
Digital Desk: Mizoram has confirmed its involvement in official discussions with Assam on April 25 to address the long-running regional border conflict. The decision followed Assam's suggestion for a peaceful and long-term solution.
According to Mizoram's Home Department, a seven-member delegation led by Home Secretary Vanlalmawia would visit Guwahati on April 24. On Friday, the state administration officially approved the visit.
"We must address all pending issues. The procedures for future decisions between the two state administrations should be finalized during these discussions," an official remarked.
In addition to strengthening coordination between the two states, officials expect the next April 25 talks to broaden the door for concrete gains on existing concerns.
Mizoram and Assam held their last minister-level talks on August 9, 2023, in Aizawl. The meeting reiterated agreements and urged for ongoing discussions. Despite previous border tensions and a fatal occurrence, both countries pledged to maintain peace.
