PM Modi appoints Ex-RBI Guv Shaktikanta Das as his second 'Principal Secretary'

Digital Desk: Shaktikanta Das, the former governor of the Reserve Bank of India (RBI), has been named Prime Minister Narendra Modi's 'Principal Secretary-2'.

"The Appointments Committee of the Cabinet has approved the appointment of Shri Shaktikanta Das, IAS (Retired) as Principal Secretary-2 to Prime Minister with effect from the date he assumes the office," noted a circular issued by the government.

His position will be "co-terminus" with the prime minister's term or until further directives are issued, it stated.

Shaktikanta Das, the RBI's governor for six years, stepped down in December last year. Sanjay Malhotra took over as the 26th governor of the central bank.

Notably, Shaktikanta Das was the economic affairs secretary when the government banned high-value currency notes in November 2016.
