Police Reshuffle in Assam; Amid 'Shoot-At-Sight' Directive, Leena Doley transferred to Dhubri
Digital Desk: The Assam government executed a major bureaucratic reshuffle of three senior Assam Police Service (APS) officers, with the intention of improving public service and strengthening law and order, particularly in the communally sensitive Dhubri District. This follows increasing tensions and an assertive directive from Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma.
Leena Doley, the Senior Superintendent of Police (SSP) in Hailakandi, has been transferred to Dhubri. Doley is known for her stern but charming attitude and has been viewed as a strategic move for the improvement of law enforcement in the border district.
Amitava Sinha, who is the former SSP (Organized Crime) in the CID wing, was appointed the control of Hailakandi and contributes an intense investigative edge to the position.
Meanwhile, Navin Singh, Dhubri's outgoing SSP, has returned to the CID to take over Sinha's position.
The announcement follows Chief Minister Sarma's visit to Dhubri on June 13, during which he evaluated the ground situation. Addressing the media, Sarma highlighted the rise in communal tensions since Bakri Eid, citing multiple instances of stone pelting and the rise of "pro-Bangladeshi posters."
Its restructuring demonstrates the government's intention to align officers' capabilities with local requirements and improve police responsiveness across districts.
