President’s Rule extension approved by Rajya Sabha in Manipur

Digital Desk: On Tuesday, August 5, the Rajya Sabha approved a statutory resolution expanding Manipur's President's Rule for an additional six months, beginning on August 13, 2025.

The decision was made in response to the state's ongoing political unrest and worries about law and order.

Amid raucous demonstrations and opposition sloganeering, Union Minister of State for Home Affairs Nityanand Rai introduced the resolution in the Upper House.

Regardless of the controversy, the House passed a resolution to uphold Article 356 of the Constitution and extend the proclamation that was first issued on February 13, 2025.

In order to promote efficient central administration in the state, the declaration, which was published in the Indian Gazette by the Union Ministry of Home Affairs, also suspends important constitutional clauses pertaining to governance and legislative processes.
