President’s Rule imposed in Manipur following N Biren Singh’s resignation
Digital Desk: President's Rule implemented in Manipur following the resignation of departing Chief Minister N. Biren Singh amid ethnic unrest.
The move comes three days after N Biren Singh resigned as the state's chief minister. According to sources, the ruling Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) has failed to reach an agreement on Biren Singh's replacement.
In a statement released by the Ministry of Home Affairs announcing the central rule, President Droupadi Murmu stated that "a situation has arisen in which the government of that state cannot be carried on in accordance with the provisions of the Constitution".
