The recipient is given a citation and a silver medal to wear around their neck, studded and embellished with nine different types of Sri Lankan gems as well as the symbols of a lotus, globe, sun, moon, and rice sheaves.
The Dharma Chakra on the medal represents both nations' shared Buddhist heritage, which has shaped their cultural traditions. The Pun Kalasa, or ceremonial pot ornamented with sheaves of rice, represents prosperity and regeneration.
A globe with lotus petals surrounding it is used to represent the Navarathna, or nine valuable gems.
