Mizoram: Renowned writer R. Lalrawna conferred with prestigious Padma Shri award in Education and Literature category

Digital desk: Esteemed educator and writer R. Lalrawna (Renthlei Lalrawna) of Mizoram has been awarded the coveted Padma Shri award in the category of education and literature. The award recognizes his commitment to enriching Mizo literature through translation as well as his outstanding contributions to education.

Lalrawna was born on December 22, 1944, in Dawn village of Lunglei district, Mizoram. Lalrawna's career began in 1964 as Headmaster of Saichal Private High School. He later worked in administration, notably as a Lower and Upper Division Clerk in the Aizawl DC office and Private Secretary to Education Minister Vaivenga. He began working for the Education Department in 1973 and rose through the ranks to become Joint Director before retiring in 2003. During his time as Joint Director of Adult Education, Mizoram's national literacy rating improved from fourth to second.

Lalrawna has translated 15 books to date. R. Lalrawna, a recipient of one of India's highest civilian honors, continues to inspire via his persistent dedication to literature and education.
