SC move lacks momentum on Shyamkanu Mahanta over ZG Death case, hearing after October 6: Sources

Digital Desk: Shyamkanu Mahanta, who is presently being investigated for the death of Zubeen Garg, the musical legend of Assam, filed a petition in the Supreme Court on September 30. As a preventive legal measure prior to his return to India, this petition has not yet attracted much attention.

According to an anonymous source with knowledge of the situation, "the plea doesn't have much stronghold till now," India TodayNE reported. We can only provide a reasonable estimate of how it will be handled and when the plea will be heard because the Supreme Court remains closed and won't reopen until Monday, October 6.

Mahanta submitted a petition via advocate Raj Kamal, his legal representative.

In an effort to evade an impending arrest, he named the Government of India, the Assam Government, the DGP Assam, the CBI, and the NIA as respondents in the plea.

On October 1, Mahanta was taken into custody by the Assam Police in New Delhi, which caused the legal focus to shift to lower court proceedings. Legal experts point out that until case hearings resume, Mahanta's request for Supreme Court intervention might not have an immediate effect.

The Supreme Court is anticipated to exercise caution in light of the case's high profile and involvement of several investigative agencies. The petition relates to the ongoing investigations into Zubeen Garg's death, where authorities are still carefully going over every aspect of the case.
