Section 163 imposed in Assam’s Sribhumi district

Digital Desk: Following the 12-hour bandh organised by unidentified parties to protest the renaming of Karimganj district to Sribhumi, Section 163 has been enforced throughout the Sribhumi district of Assam.

Concerns about potential unrest and disturbance of law and order have prompted the decision.

Growing public discontent with the recent renaming of Karimganj district to Sribhumi, which has provoked local protests and political unrest, prompted the bandh.

Concerns about potential unrest and disturbance of law and order have prompted the decision.

The regulation strictly prohibits gatherings of five or more people without prior authorisation.

Additionally prohibited are unauthorised rallies, strikes, dharnas, bandhs, and demonstrations.

Additionally, the order restricts the carrying of weapons, explosives, or any suspicious items.

It also prohibits obstruction of traffic, illegal parking, and the use of loudspeakers or other high-decibel sound equipment without official approval.

However, the restrictions do not apply to government employees on duty or to emergency services such as ambulances and fire services.

Authorities have warned that any violation of the order will attract legal consequences under relevant laws.

Officials stated that the imposition of Section 163 is a precautionary measure to ensure peace, public safety, and the smooth functioning of daily life in the district.
