Show cause notice by SEC for Mizoram ministers accused of breaking model code of conduct
Digital Desk: In a political strife 2 ministers of Mizoram have been served show-cause notices by the State Election Commission (SEC) over alleged breaches of the model code of conduct (MCC).
PWD Minister Vanlalhlana and Sports Minister Lalnghinglova Hmar have been served show-cause notices by the State Election Commission (SEC) over alleged breaches of the model code of conduct (MCC).
The action was taken in advance of the February 12 village council and local council elections.
Following a complaint from the main opposition Mizo National Front (MNF), notices were sent to Sports Minister Lalnghinglova Hmar and PWD Minister Vanlalhlana, according to State Election Commissioner H. Lalthlangliana.
He added the two ministers were asked to provide their justifications by Monday.
He stated that up until Sunday, the election commission had not received any other complaints regarding MCC violations, other from the one against the two ministers.
According to the MNF, a video that appeared on social media recently showed Vanlalhlana virtually campaigning for candidates of the Zoram People's Movement (ZPM) party in the Durtlang local council from his ministerial office.
The MNF accused the minister of violating the MCC by promoting his authority without proper oversight.
The opposition party accused Hmar of violating the MCC by announcing development plans and projects during a meeting with ZPM candidates in his constituency on January 27.
