Sikkim: Ex-servicemen and Agniveers granted age relaxations applying for police constable posts
Digital Desk: Sikkim Chief Minister Prem Singh Tamang has announced a 20% reservation in police constable recruitment for Agniveers. This declaration was made at the 'Shared Vision for Viksit Bharat 2047 - Military-Civil Fusion 2025' symposium held in Gangtok.
The CM also announced a 10-year relaxation of the upper age limit for ex-servicemen who have completed at least 6 months of service in the Armed Forces, allowing them to apply for these positions until the age of 50. This represents a significant increase from the typical upper age limit of 40 years for Sikkim government posts.
The Chief Minister of Sikkim Prem Singh Tamang has emphasized the importance of military-civil fusion for national security, infrastructure development, economic progress, and social integration in a strategically sensitive border state.
Tamang also emphasized the necessity of military-civil engagement, citing the Indian Army's critical role not just in border security but also in Sikkim's socioeconomic growth. He referenced the Army's support during the 2023 Teesta floods as evidence of this collaboration.
The initiative, coordinated by the Army, Border Roads Organisation, and state government, aims to strengthen border infrastructure, promote youth participation, encourage innovation, and foster eco-sensitive tourism.
The announcement is expected to create significant employment opportunities for Agniveers and ex-servicemen, reinforcing the state's commitment to supporting its veterans and enhancing the synergy between military and civilian sectors.
