Singapore Resident Rupkamal Kalita to Appear Before CID in Guwahati

Digital Desk: As the investigation into the untimely death of singer-actor Zubeen Garg intensifies, attention has now turned to key members of the Assam Association Singapore (AAS), whose cooperation is considered critical to the inquiry.

Singapore-based resident Rupkamal Kalita is scheduled to arrive in Guwahati on Tuesday and will give his statement to the CID.

Kalita has already been in touch with the SIT regarding the matter.

Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma expressed optimism that other key individuals will also arrive soon, adding that efforts are underway to facilitate their appearance.

The CM noted that the SIT cannot conduct the investigation in Singapore alone and emphasized that the Singapore police will need to cooperate.

Assistance through Interpol has already been sought.

Meanwhile, the Special Investigation Team (SIT) has recorded a statement from Anita Deka Mahanta, the wife of Shyamkanu Mahanta.

She appeared before the SIT while coming to meet her husband in custody.

Sources indicate that Anita Deka Mahanta was in Singapore at the time of the incident, attending the North East Festival.

On the other hand, the Special Investigation Team (SIT) probing the mysterious death of singer-actor Zubeen Garg has uncovered substantial financial transactions linked to his bodyguard, Nandeshwar Borah and an associate, identified as Baishya.

Sources said that over the past four to five years, a total of Rs 1 crore was transferred through accounts held by the two individuals.

The SIT has also recovered sensitive information from Zubeen Garg’s mobile phone, which is being analyzed to trace the flow of money and other critical details surrounding the case.

Investigators have thoroughly examined all financial records and communications from the month preceding Garg’s planned travel to Singapore, seeking to establish potential connections to his untimely death.
