Six suspects, including BTC poll candidate arrested after CID busts fake appointment letter racket in Assam

Digital Desk: CID Assam has detained six people in connection with a fraudulent appointment letter scam involving the state's Water Resources Department, officials announced on Sunday. Among those seized is a candidate running in the upcoming Bodoland Territorial Council (BTC) elections on the Bodoland People's Front (BPF) banner.

According to officials, the accused reportedly collected money from job seekers in exchange for false appointment letters that the department's Chief Engineer purportedly signed.

The scam was discovered in February when the Chief Engineer's office filed a complaint after reports surfaced of fake appointment letters being distributed to various departments of the agency.

According to investigations, one of the accused frequently made large deposits into the BTC poll candidate's account. In exchange for money, the latter allegedly gave the fake appointment letters to gullible candidates.

So far, six defendants have been identified and taken into custody. To find other members of the network, the investigation is still ongoing, a CID official confirmed.

Authorities believe the racket may have defrauded several job seekers throughout the state, and the arrests are a major step in breaking it up.
